Position Title: Mechanical Fitter / Assistant

Job Role:
Support mechanical maintenance and fitting tasks on tobacco processing and packaging machines. Assist senior mechanics and engineers in ensuring equipment operates efficiently with minimal downtime.
Job Description:
- Assist in mechanical installation, repair, and maintenance of tobacco processing machinery.
- Support preventive maintenance and breakdown maintenance activities.
- Perform basic assembly, fitting, and adjustment of mechanical components.
- Replace worn or defective parts such as bearings, belts, gears, and couplings under supervision.
- Assist in machine overhauling and scheduled servicing activities.
- Lubricate machine parts and ensure smooth mechanical operation.
- Support troubleshooting activities for conveyors, feeders, rotating equipment, and material handling systems.
- Follow safety procedures and maintenance standards during all maintenance activities.
- Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean and organized.
- Document completed tasks and report mechanical faults or abnormalities to supervisors.
- Coordinate and collaborate with electricians, production teams, and supervisors when required.
- Support shutdown maintenance and emergency repair activities as assigned.
Health, Safety & Compliance:
- Follow company safety procedures, maintenance standards, and workplace regulations.
- Ensure safe working practices while operating near machinery, moving equipment, and hot surfaces.
- Use appropriate PPE and comply with lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures.
- Maintain clean and safe working areas in accordance with housekeeping standards.
- Report unsafe conditions, hazards, and maintenance risks immediately to supervisors.
Qualifications:
- ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or relevant technical trade.
- Mechanical trade certification is an added advantage.
Experience Requirements:
- 1–3 years of experience as a Mechanical Assistant, Mechanical Technician, or Fitter in:
- Tobacco processing
- FMCG
- Food processing
- Industrial manufacturing environments
- Experience in continuous process industries is preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
- Familiarity with mechanical maintenance tools and workshop practices.
- Basic understanding of rotating equipment and material handling systems.
- Ability to read and understand basic mechanical drawings is an advantage.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance activities and lubrication practices.
People Management:
- Maintain good communication and coordination with other technicians and team members.
- Support teamwork and collaborative working relationships within the maintenance department.
- Prepare and submit daily activity reports to the Line Manager.
- Assist supervisors and senior technicians during maintenance and shutdown activities.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Remain proactive during shifts and ensure no hazards exist within the mechanical maintenance area.
- Ensure machines are functioning properly and operating safely.
- Plan, organize, and complete assigned maintenance activities within deadlines.
- Comply with company procedures, safety standards, and operational requirements.
